Q: I fell and broke my elbow last week. It’s been in a sling but I’m getting stiff and am scared to start therapy. Should I be?

A: Elbow fractures, if stable, can quickly become tight and contracted. The elbow is a hinge joint and only moves in a couple of directions. Both the joint and muscles passing over it can become limited, causing loss of motion and function. If your Physician refers you to therapy, it’s important to begin as soon as possible to avoid and minimize these losses. Our exercises will take into consideration the level of healing and stability of the bone. The exercises will be much easier and less painful if you start them as soon as possible.
