Question: How should my 18 month old communicate?

Answer: An 18 month old child can say between 10-20 words and combine two words together. Children will frequently use “more-please”, “all gone/ done”, and “daddy-bye” to comment and request. Children at this age are beginning to make sounds more accurately. Labeling around 5 items in the child’s familiar environment is a common occurrence. An 18 month child recognizes familiar people and objects within pictures. This child can follow simple commands and locate objects in another room. Children are beginning to develop play routines and sing simple songs. This is a very fun age!
