Question: My doctor referred me to physical therapy following a knee injury. I went for three visits and during each visit I was in the gym with several other people and only received short periods of time with my therapist. Is this a typical expectation with physical therapy?

Answer: Absolutely not. Physical therapy visits should be a one on one experience with the physical therapist to direct and educate you
in appropriate exercises and techniques. Neither you nor your insurance company should be expected to pay for time spent on your own in a gym type setting. Most therapists pride themselves in providing quality care to assist patients in meeting their goals. You should expect and mandate one on one time with a licensed therapist during your visits. For additional information, contact Kathy at STARS at 288-4670
