Julie Dunn: November 2018 Physical Therapist of the Month!

Julie Dunn, PT - STARS Physical TherapyJulie practices at the STARS Meridian Talus location. Julie is also a STARS provider at the Mulvaney OBGYN clinic on the Boise hospital campus. She received a Bachelor’s in Spanish from Boise State University, and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Idaho State University. After graduating, she has specialized in pelvic floor therapy and orthopedic manual therapy and is now a Certified Manual Physical Therapist (CMPT) through the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT).

Some of Julie’s clinical interests are:  postpartum rehabilitation and pregnancy care, pelvic health throughout the lifespan, integration of the pelvic floor treatment with other body regions and systems, hip dysfunction, general orthopedics, neck pain, and the combination of advanced hands-on techniques with progressive exercise.

As a CMPT, Julie Dunn uses hands-on techniques as a part of many treatments. This can include fascial or other soft tissue treatment or a variety of mobilizations to joints themselves. She also considers regional biomechanics of injuries and long-term implications of common conditions on other areas of the body. In addition to clinical experience, she has had >150 hours of advanced post-graduate training in hands-on therapy and clinical reasoning from head to toe, and has passed both written and practical exams for application of her skills.

Julie believes in empowering each individual with education and active exercise to achieve the best results. She also has advanced training in: visceral fascial mobilization, chronic pain education, fascial distortion model (FDM), and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF).

Julie’s favorite hobbies include spending time with her family and friends, hiking, traveling, finding good music, reading, and enjoying time outdoors.
