Question: My surgeon states I need to have rotator cuff surgery on my shoulder. How long will it take before I have good use of my shoulder again?

Answer: There are a few factors that play into your recovery time. For example; Patient age, tissue quality surrounding the injured area, rotator tear size, as well as other current medical issues which may delay the healing process. Every patient is a little different. An average range of recovery to perform normal ADL’s (activities of daily living), I would say anywhere from 10-16 weeks. However, in order to achieve this, physical therapy is crucial and must be done 2-3 times a week. This will help improve your range of motion and strength.
