Question: I just started a new desk job, and I have been having progressively worsening shoulder pain that is now waking me at
night. What can I do to make this better?

Answer: There can be many causes for shoulder pain. If you are experiencing shoulder pain and have not sustained an injury, your posture throughout the day may be a huge contributing factor. The majority of activities that we participate in today, whether it be working on the computer, reading, or even playing video games can put us in a forward posture for prolonged periods. This can lead to poor alignment at your shoulder and therefore repetitive irritation. Making sure to take frequent breaks from working in these
positions, and sitting with good posture can be the first step to eliminating some of your pain. Contact a PT here at STARS for an evaluation for specific exercises to help with your pain. For additional information, please contact Kathleen at STARS at 367-3315.
